Fitting Studio
One of the most common yoga clothing mistakes is wearing pure cotton apparel, which absorbs sweat instead of keeping your skin dry. This will leave you wet, cold and heavy during practice. Making a poor decision when selecting fabric, fit or support can interrupt your focus and concentration, deviate from your position, or lead to embarrassing outfit failures.
Your wardrobe choices can either elevate or undermine your practice. Here are the most common yoga clothing mistakes women make and specific ways to correct them, to help you stay focused on your mat.
The most prevalent misconception is that pure cotton is an optimal option for yoga or exercise due to its highly moisture-wicking quality and comfortable fibres. Conversely, cotton soaks up like a towel. It absorbs moisture, locks in the sweat, turns heavy and rubs against your skin. On the other hand, low-grade substitutes will be poorly ventilated which leaves you overheated.
Quick Fix: Try out quick-drying synthetic blends like polyester-spandex or nylon-spandex. If you prioritise sustainable fabric, look for bamboo-cotton blends or ultralight merino wool, which are naturally breathable, trap sweat, and are odour resisting.

We have all been there! You picked up a stunning pair of leggings, and when you try to do a forward bend, you realised just how see-through they were under the studio lighting. Fashionable leggings are not thick enough and are not made in a way that would allow for such heavy stretching involved in yoga practice.
Quick Fix: Before putting on any new leggings, always do a “squat test” in front of the mirror at home and make sure the fabric holds up even when you stretch it to its max.
Oversized t-shirts are perfect for chilling at home or sleeping; however, if you are taking a yoga class, they are going to be your biggest problem. As soon as you assume an exercise where gravity takes effect, your baggy top will immediately rise above your head, covering your face and neck, leaving your body uncovered.
Quick Fix: Form-fitting tops or tanks with built-in bra cups, as well as shirts with banded bottoms that prevent slipping during yoga practice, are a better choice.

Low-rise leggings may be perfect for streetwear, but when you practice the yoga poses, they become incredibly irritating. Each time you transition from plank to downward dog, low-rise leggings slide down, making you pull them back up after each pose.
Quick Fix: High-waisted leggings should be every yogi’s go-to choice. Search for leggings with an ample waistband, which won’t stop slipping during practice and will ensure you focus on your movements and breathing.

Even if your leggings are comfortable, you may have problems with your yoga session because of your underwear. Too thick seams can irritate sensitive areas, while vibrant colours and bold designs will peek out through thin yoga fabric.
Quick Fix: Prefer buying seamless and moisture-wicking underwear that is specifically designed for sports activities. Prefer nude shades to keep your underwear out of view.
